The Zonm Lib or Free Man monument is a metal statue depicting a man breaking free of his chains that stood until recently in central Victoria just behind the people's stadium where it was first placed in 1978 to commemorate the ‘Liberation Day‘ of June 5 1977, the day that the Coup d’etat by the then Prime Minister France Albert René removed the first President of Seychelles, James Mancham, from power. Always something of a divisive symbol, it was replaced in 2014 by the Liberty Monument and has since been moved to the nearby Parti Lepep's headquarters.
