The Tourism Department is initiating a training programme for people desiring to operate their own small tourism establishments.
The department is collaborating with the Seychelles Tourism Academy (STA) and Seychelles Hospitality and Tourism Association (SHTA) to develop the proposed training.
Diana Quatre from the Tourism Department, Murla Gabriel from STA, Sybille Cardon and Louise Testa from SHTA, as well as Roland Rassool and Cecile Berlouis, representing small tourism establishments in Seychelles, met to discuss the proposal.
The meeting was held at Botanical House, Mont Fleuri, on Tuesday last week. Their discussions was primarily focused on the topics that should be covered in the training programme.
Members of SHTA, trade partners as well as STA lecturers will be responsible for the delivery of the approved topics.
All stakeholders present at last Tuesday’s meeting welcomed this new initiative, pledged their active involvement and expressed their eagerness to see its full implementation.
They were all of the view that venturing into a tourism accommodation business should not be merely about making money, but also about offering an authentic Seychelles’ experience to the guests.
The Department of Tourism wishes to make the training a mandatory component in the process of obtaining a new license, or the renewal of licenses by small tourism establishment owners.
